Three Faces

This work is a portrait of Lily Jones, a transgender woman who started life as a boy and is now living life post-op. I found out about Lily when I was studying in Aberystwyth, Wales, where Lily grew up. Lily was the 'poster girl' for transgender people in this rural area while I was there. I was drawn to her story because of her incredible grace, her tolerance of people who were cruel to her, and her bravery in allowing the public to know who she really was. I want this work to show what you cannot see in her publicity photos, what's inside -- a microcosm of resistance, fortitude and serenity.
