Scattered not Shattered
Scattered not Shattered
This work is made from salvaged scraps of timber and other small once-functional objects that have been discarded or left from their original purpose. They are arranged as if dropped from a height creating an apparently random design caught in a moment frozen in time and rendered useless in their new form.
It speaks to the experience of upheaval: when we feel as if we have been taken apart and not quite put back together the right way.
In fact, the pieces have been positioned carefully much like the effect of a kaleidoscope that rearranges fragments in a new way creating a previously unseen image. The experience of disassembly might produce new knowledge and understanding of the components we are made from. We have been scattered but not shattered.
