Reclamation of Red
Reclamation of Red
In conversations around women’s health and menopause, the colour red often emerges—sometimes subconsciously, as both a literal and symbolic presence. I question whether this association is reductive or profoundly powerful, as it connects to menstruation and becomes a visual marker of how women bleed—physically and emotionally with every step. Does the colour shape or inform their very existence, and how they experience the world?
Today, women are rewriting the story of menopause, and what it means to be hormonally well. We are reclaiming ourselves and our sacred ancestral power, we are rising up.
Red embodies fundamental aspects of existence: life force, passion, energy, courage, and raw primal power. It is tied to the root chakra, symbolising grounding, vitality, and the drive to act, and act with authenticity. Spiritually, red is aligned with blood—the life-giving force, and long revered across cultures as a symbol of strength, vitality, and the sacred divine and sacred feminine.
Red is old magic, core magic, transitional magic. It is the colour of transformation, resilience, and creation. Within a woman, it symbolises the very birthplace of humanity itself
