Fractured Footprints
Rabbits have always reminded me of my Great Aunty Glad - of childhood walks on her farm, her stories, her unshakable spirit, and the way she filled my life with laughter. As we wandered, she set rabbit traps, speaking of how she once caught and sold them. As a child, I was unaware of the weight of our actions.
This sculpture carries both light and shadow. The rabbit, a symbol of innocence, freedom, and family, stands with a fractured leg - representing those caught, trapped, injured, and unable to escape. It is an acknowledgment of the unseen shadow within memory, the hidden cracks beneath nostalgia. I adore rabbits; they hold deep significance for me. Yet, unknowingly, I once played a role in their fate.
This piece is a reflection on the parts of the past we don’t always examine, the quiet darkness beneath fond recollections, and the way love and loss intertwine.
