Don't Look Away Nips and Lips
Don't Look Away Nips and Lips
'Don’t Look Away’ is a series of lenticular works ‘Nips and Lips.’
Are you courageous enough to stare at the taboo and be curious and playful?
I put out a call out to friends and family to bravely bare their nipples and lips for my artwork. These women have been willing to expose themselves to the public gaze to be witnessed, talked about and subject to scrutiny.
Nips is a collection of thirty-six Selfies, taken by women I know, of one of their nipples. Each nipple has been superimposed with a flower in bloom, a trick to the eye, allowing the viewer to participate in their gaze playfully without feeling awkward or self- aware.
Lips is a selection of fifty-four Selfies of the lips of family and friends which I have turned sideways in order to allude to female genitalia. Superimposed with phallic-like images of cacti or peter-peppers allows the viewer to question what they are looking at, thus creating a parody of the Male Gaze.
