Andrew Lukic
Andrew’s love affair with colour and form is something that has just always been. The richness of light and texture translate into an abstract and very modern interpretation of dream vs memory, where ancient past meet present.
A lifetime obsessed with tribal Art from the world over, Andrew’s work references Maori, Modern Aboriginal, even the geometry of early Polynesian Tapa cloth with the use of line, layering, texture and form.
Andrew is most passionate about the connection between emotion and colour, often mixing up the tints and shades directly onto the canvas. Andrews method of layering colour whilst often still wet bring a sense of unexpected clarity in the relinquished control.
The work is intended to be bright and joyous, yet introverted. Spiritual yet somehow playful and above all else, deeply connected to emotion.
Championing Mark Rothko as their foremost inspiration, this quote speaks directly to the core of this body of work
