These five words broke my heart.
How could I find my way through such human-made darkness?
How could my voice break through the thick silence that seemed to blanket all?
How could I peel back the shadow deliberately thrown?
My art became my emotional guide, my universal language, my shining torch.
I realised the very process I used was about removing the dark and finding the light beneath —a long, painstaking process using a small tool but if I persisted... little by little, the shadow retreated.
Present day Unicef estimates at least 17, 000 children in Gaza are unaccompanied or separated from their parents.
Gaza now has the largest cohort of child amputees in modern history.
